Caroline in Jane Smileys A Thousand Acres :: Smiley Thousand Acres Essays
Caroline in A Thousand Acres It is truly striking that a novel in which groups of individuals and assemblages of land (and, intertextually, collections of content) are so focal, makes a character that is so unmistakably unbodied: Caroline Cook. In any case, it is with regards to conventional and man centric understandings of Cordelia's character in King Lear: a paragon of virtue and amazing quality. While her sisters' bodies are altogether depicted and, not least, saturated with importance, Caroline is constantly portrayed as far as her professional 'pay attention to me or-I'll-sue-you' mien (13), her costly garments and decisive activities. She is in reality depicted like a man, an attribute previously uncovered when she as a kid says that she won't be a farmwife when she grows up, yet a rancher (61), at that point when Ginny has her snapshot of knowledge close to the end, and unexpectedly recognizes the truth about everyone plainly: her eyes shooting starting with one face then onto the next, figuring, continually computing. [...] She moves into Daddy's lap, and her look crawls around the room, hoping to check whether we have seen how he inclines toward her. (306) She is as yet unbodied here, portrayed regarding eyes and brain. This is allegorically a male area; in Western idea, the look is customarily male, sorting outer reality so as to have control over it by using reason. Nor, obviously, is it coincidental that Caroline is the informed one, accentuating further her having a place with the male domain. While Rose's man-ness depends on a ruinous fury, Caroline's depends on chilly figuring, thusly she is increasingly fruitful carrying on honestly of the man centric society. It must be recalled, notwithstanding, that she can utilize the framework since she has been protected from its negative side. Ginny and Rose have consistently shielded her from Larry's displeasure, interbreeding, and complete concealment of their own characters. While Larry implies such a significant number of things to the senior sisters, not least the frightfully private - recognizable recollections of inbreeding, Caroline can say about him that he looks as natural as a dad should look, no more, no less. In this, as Ginny answers, she is fortunate. (362) Obviously, saying that Caroline resembles a man signals complicity with sex generalizations. She is a positive character in that she is self-assured and independent, as when she scrutinizes Larry's plan to separate the ranch.

That is a dubious inquiry, and I accept the appropriate response lies some place in the middle of the two. The battle is to control however not over manage the individuals. Thatââ¬â¢s were communism looks better, yet then the administration is to control full and human instinct can influence the legislature similarly as it can a non military personnel. I accept my vote goes for law based private enterprise with less government and a serious market. 3. What capacities does government need to embrace on account of fallen human instinct? How to Prep for the PSAT
HomeApplyTest TakingHow to Prep for the PSATThis page may contain affiliate links.Sep 20, 2018 Many families understand that the PSAT is a preparation exam for the SAT, so they donââ¬â¢t think preparing for it is needed. However, many of the parents in our Facebook group Paying for College 101 say quite the opposite. Preparing for the PSAT by using free resources, exam books, and even paid tutoring can pay off big in the long run. Your student will be well-prepared for the SAT, and doing extremely well on the PSAT can get your child additional merit aid if they qualify as a National Merit Scholar. Hereââ¬â¢s what you need to know about preparing for the PSAT! Determine Your Goals Knowing exactly what youââ¬â¢re shooting for will help you decide what level of investment is appropriate. Have your student prepare for and take the PSAT 10. If they do extremely well, itââ¬â¢s worth investing in higher level prep or tutoring to move them into National Merit Scholarship territory on the junior year PSAT. If they do alright, or do well but not excellent, thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong with that. Continue to help them prepare, but focus on how it will impact their SAT score. Hereââ¬â¢s what one parent in our group said: ââ¬Å"When my son (my 2nd child) took the PSAT 10, I realized he had the potential for national merit with a little focus. So I used a tutor for English from the end of August for about 4 weeks. à He suggested my son take the real SAT the week before the PSAT 11. This worked to our advantage. He tried harder and got the jitters out of his system for the actual PSAT after taking the SAT the weekend before. à He also took an ACT prep class with the same tutor. He took the ACT later that same month. The end result: SAT 1500. PSAT 1490 with an index score of 222. ACT 35. Determined to do better, he took the SAT again and got a 1560. à Now were waiting to hear what the index score is for NY state for National Merit to see if he qualifies!â⬠à Even if your student doesnââ¬â¢t qualify for National Merit, PSAT prep can be a good idea. Another parent had this story: ââ¬Å"My daughter did prep for the PSAT. She is a very good test taker and we thought it was possible she might get National Merit so she did four sessions with an SAT tutor. It helped, but she missed National Merit by one question (we are in MD which is one of the hardest states to get it). Very happy that we did it. It helped her get started prepping for the SAT generally and made her feel less stressed about the whole process.â⬠SAT Prep Books Because the PSAT and SAT cover the same subject areas, you can use SAT prep books to study for the PSAT. Some good options include the Princeton Review SAT book, Barronââ¬â¢s SAT prep books, and the SAT Prep Black Book Make sure you use SAT prep books that are for the post-2016 version of the exam. Both the PSAT and SAT changed a lot, and you donââ¬â¢t want to prepare for the wrong thing! You can also choose prep books that help your student improve specific subject areas, such as reading, math, or writing. Barronââ¬â¢s has some excellent options for these areas. Books can have a big impact. Hereââ¬â¢s what one of our Facebook group parents shared: ââ¬Å"My niece missed the National Merit cutoff by mere points several years ago. They did not know to prep for the test. My older brother advised me to have my kids prep for it as they are strong test takers. à Oldest took PSAT for practice in 10th grade and was in the 97% with a 1350. He did a self-study and then an online Kaplan PSAT course the summer and fall before 11th-grade PSAT. He ended up focusing on official practice PSAT tests (free)à and studying on his own at the end. That was when he saw a big jump in scores. He ended up with an 11th grade PSAT score of 1480 and an SI of 221. His later ACT and SAT scores were also in the 99+percentile range. à This is a game changer for our family. While he will throw his hat in the ring for scholarships at two non-National Merit Finalist schools, he also knows he now has an almost-free ride to complete free ride at several schools that he would be very happy to attend. This means his college fund can move over to finish his much younger siblingââ¬â¢s college fund.â⬠Online SAT Prep There are a ton of great online preparation tools as well. You can find official SAT practice tests on the College Board website for free, along with College Board approved free prep through the Khan Academy. Kaplan offers some PSAT study materials for free as well. For mobile users, the College Board also has an SAT practice app that your student can use to get daily practice questions and get explanations of the correct answers. Speaking of apps, Ready4 SAT for iPhone or Android is one of the best. It has 60 SAT lessons, hundreds of flashcards, and thousands of realistic practice questions. While this wonââ¬â¢t be the only resource your student should use, itââ¬â¢s a great on-the-go option to reinforce the book learning. Beyond the free or inexpensive resources, there are many online sites that offer paid SAT preparation, such as the Princeton Review SAT program and Barronââ¬â¢s SAT prep. Be sure to carefully compare the costs and features before making a purchase. Books or Tutoring? One of the important things to keep in mind is that learning from PSAT or SAT prep books will be less expensive, but it also requires your student to be very self-motivated. Itââ¬â¢s also possible that your teen doesnââ¬â¢t learn well from books. If your child has a different learning style or struggles to focus on their own, paid tutoring (either online or in person) may be best. Youââ¬â¢ll need to get recommendations, talk to their previous clients, and carefully compare what youââ¬â¢re getting before you commit to a program. Most of all, it has to be someone your student connects with! Again, this is most important if your student is shooting for National Merit status. Otherwise, your student can just focus on getting a good enough score on the SAT to get into a preferred school. One parent that chose not to prep shared this story: ââ¬Å"My 2 kids did not prep and itââ¬â¢s a long shot that we donââ¬â¢t regret. One would never have prepped enough and would have been more anxious. The other may have done better but with everything going on at that time between activities and a sports injury would have made it difficult.â⬠à Find a Generous College Offering Merit Scholarships! The point of all this work to prepare for the PSAT is to qualify for more merit based aid or merit scholarships. Many National Merit Semifinalists and Finalists find that certain schools will offer significant scholarships simply because they won the designation. Are you interested in finding the most generous schools for your student? Check out our Merit Scholarship Toolkit today!

Princess Diana led the same life she had been, she continued her charity work and her love life. Princess Diana was killed in an attempt to keep the country s secrets safe. My First Surprise Party Expository Place Descripti Essay Example For Students
My First Surprise Party Expository Place Descripti Essay ve Essays My First Surprise Party I am the one in the picture with the sloppy bun in my hair and the bright red cheeks. The one who cant stop smiling. With all my friends surrounding me, it was one of the best days of my life. All fifteen of us look happy; it was a night for many smiles. Everyone is crowded around the table. There are a lot of red cheeks in the picture; the room was as hot as a sauna. There was a strong smell of barbeque sauce in the air as well. The picture was taken right after dinner. The table we are crowded around is messy. There are a lot of cups on the table and bottles of ketchup and barbeque sauce, with dirty, green napkins piled up. The restaurant was as noisy as the circus when the clowns perform. There were a lot of pictures taken that night, but out of all the pictures, this is the best one taken of everyone. Crouched down in front is Brent Dana. He has a grin on his face more than a smile. Brent hates pictures, and he doesnt smile in any of them; he is wearing his red Rag Tails shirt that he always wears. Next to Brent is Jade Walker. She has her hair back and is wearing her red North Face jacket. Jade has an adorable smile on her face. Next to Jade is Mary Attaway leaning over the table wearing a flowered backless shirt with a black sweater. To the right of Mary is Laura Jones. Laura is slightly leaning her head toward her right shoulder and is wearing a blue shirt with a drawstring tie in front. Laura has her arm around Erica Farnsworth, who has a yellow shirt and white jacket on. She looks especially happy; she is smiling from ear to ear. Starting in the left hand comer (in row two) are Chad Phillips and Caitlin Pollock standing together. Chad has his arms around Caitlins waist. He has this cute little grin, and Caitlin has a huge smile and rosy red cheeks. Brittany Wilkins is next to Caitlin with a puzzled look on her face, the face you would see in a hard Algebra II exam when you dont think you even learned what the question is asking. To the top right of Brittany is Katie Van Cleave. She looks as if she is stretching on her tiptoes as high as she can to get her little head in the picture. The person right in front of Katie is Katie Fogo. Katie looks goofy; she is hunched over and has the look of a kindergartener going off to the first day of school with a big smile. Next to Katie am I, and my cheeks are red because I have been running around. I have my arms around Katie Fogo and Christopher Wright. Chriss cheeks are equally red. Chris is bending over to be down at my height since he is so much taller than me. Above Christopher and me is Bailey Pratt. Hes standing on a chair, and it took about five tries of this same picture to get one picture that he didnt do something silly to mess up. Below Christopher off to the right are Ricky Johnson and Phillip Cole. Ricky and Philip are like Brent and dont like to smile in pictures. Zak Brooks Essays (580 words) - Education, Behavior Modification
Zak Brooks James J. Successful student essay 10:00 13 October 2017 Tips to be a successful college student Many students have only a small idea of what it takes to be successful in college. Most students could get by doing the minimum amount of work in high school, and get a big shock when they get to college and are failing classes. That's because college is not there to just help you and pass you along to something better, it is there to separate the overachievers from the underachievers. The key to be a successful college student is learning how to manage your studies and fun to make the of your time in college. A big part of being successful is learning proper study habits. If students learn early on how to properly study they will find doing well in classes becomes much less of a struggle, and takes a lot of stress off them. Many students do not realize it but studying can be fun; all you need to do is find a group of friends in your class that are willing to get together to form a study group. By finding a group of friends there will be other people to talk with and pass the time while studying, so it wont end up being so boring. Taking notes in class is a very important detail, as boring as it seems at the time to take notes; you will thank yourself when you are trying to study. Finally, if you have a question do not be afraid to go visit the professor, they will most likely be very happy to help you and they can often explain it much better in a one on one setting rather than with the whole class. The second part to being successful in college is being able to learn how to have a good time. Many students feel the need to put all their energy into their school work which will get very old and tiring after a while. You need to make sure that you have plenty of friends. The more friends that you have is just more people that you can talk too or go eat with so you are not always doing everything alone. Get out occasionally, you cannot spend all day just locked in your dorm studying. Go to a party Friday night, go somewhere on the weekend, go get hammered with your friends, just have a good time; make the most of it. It is okay to miss a class you usually get 3 absences, use them. If your friends ask you want to go do something and it seems fun, go do it you can always do something outside of class or get the notes but do not miss out on a good time because of a class. You need to be able to handle the school work, but you also need to be able to relax and have a good time. Many students are not fully prepared for the added challenges of college from those that they had in high School. It is important to make sure that you spend enough time on your studies as that is your main priority when you are at college. You also need to make sure that you incorporate time to have fun so you are not constantly studying your time away. College is meant to prepare you for a job, but also to go out into the real world on your own..

Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Comparison One of the aspects of the worldââ¬â¢s top pharmaceutical companies, that stands out is their concentration and investment on research and development programs. This is credited to the fact that most of the competition in the pharmaceutical business lies in the development of new products that are unique and serve to satisfy particular health needs. Revenues for the largest pharmaceutical companies according to 2009 annual reports Rank Company Country Total Revenues Net income/ (loss) Employees 1 Pfizer United States $50,009 $8,635 137,127 2 Johnson Johnson United States $63,747 $10,576 119,200 3 Hoffmannââ¬âLa Roche Switzerland $43,970 $8,135 78,604 4 Novartis Switzerland $44,267 $8,454 98,200 5 GlaxoSmithKline United Kingdom $40,424 $10,432 103,483 6 Sanofi France â⠬29,306 â⠬8,471 84,000 7 AstraZeneca United Kingdom/Sweden $31,601 $5,959 67,400 8 Abbott Laboratories United States $29,527 $4,880 68,697 9 Merck Co. The need to increase their business capacity as well as their market share is characterized by the numerous mergers and acquisitions in the pharmaceutical industry and this has served to increase the total value as well as productivity of the industry in general. This may be the reason behind the higher net income that Merck co. as compared to other pharmaceutical companies. Net incomes for the major pharmaceutical companies in the world The four major pharmaceutical companies, however, differ in their business models, with ot her major pharmaceutical companies as Pfizer and Novartis are identified to produce both prescription and over-the-counter drugs for both human and animal health. On the other hand, Sanofi chooses to concentrate their business model on the production of prescription drugs only while most major companies diversify their production so as to secure their revenue flows. Merck co. chooses to concentrate on research and development as well as the publication of medical and pharmacy manuals, which makes them unique in the whole industry (Frazier 4). Relationship between recessions and the increase in drug prices The suggestion that since 1960 to 2011, each time when pharmaceutical prices spiked, it was followed by a U.S. economic recession can only be explained through a review of consumer spending on prescription drugs. It has been identified that the cost of drugs increase by a substantial amount all over the world and this can be explained through the particular increase in spending. T he amount of money in billion dollars that the total cost of drugs increased by during recessions It has also been identified that American citizens spend over $289 billion a year on prescription drugs alone and this is a significant amount in the economy. Some people may argue that an increase in prices, even with a small margin will obviously have a significant impact on the economy and this directly translates to reduced savings and increased consumer spending (Schoonveld 127). This has been known over the years to be followed by a general increase in interest rates so as to reduce the consumption and increase savings (Ajami 267). With the inability of most citizens to meet their payments on credit advanced to them, defaults increase and the result is a negative ripple effect in the financial and credit markets as well as the entire economy in general. It may also be argued that during economic hardships people get sick often and, therefore, the demand for drugs goes up and subs equently their prices. Ajami, Riad. Incarnation - Research Paper Example Thus, in the earliest state of Christianity, the Evangelists did neither elaborate on Jesusââ¬â¢s words ââ¬Å"The Father and I are oneâ⬠3 nor expound on the baptizing formula ââ¬Å"in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spiritâ⬠4; which, according to Dibb, indicates that they were more concerned with the message of salvation, rather than with the theological detail.5 On the other hand, identifying Jesus as Christ and linking Him to the Father (Lord), the New Testament writers not just suggested the fulfillment of Jewish expectations of the Messiah, but also His divine status ââ¬â the latter being considered the central point that has made the uniqueness of Christianity6. All in all, the whole Christian tradition could be considered as ââ¬Å"recording and interpreting various collective and individual experiences of Jesusâ⬠7; while the experiential knowledge of Jesus, in turn, became more or less the basis of ââ¬Ëphilosophyââ¬â¢ in the context of Christology89. ... This paper is focused on the central concept in Christology, namely the incarnation, which actually represents the greatest challenge faced by theologians, philosophers and apologists concerned with the Christian faith and worship. The following sections explore the concept of incarnation as viewed by representatives of different schools of thought and traditions within the Christian Church, as well as by contemporary theologians and researchers in the field. Thus, the paper traces the development of this concept over the centuries and attempts to address its acceptability nowadays. Early Christian Writers ââ¬â Views of the Nature of God The relationship between the human and the divine, the finite and infinite, in the person of Jesus, appeared an issue that increasingly required further articulation. St Ignatius, who became the Bishop of Antioch in 69 AD and was sentenced to death in about 107 AD, wrote a series of Epistles to the Christians, in which Jesus Christ is depicted as ââ¬Å"God becoming visibleâ⬠, ââ¬Å"God existing in flesh, true life in deathâ⬠, representing the mind of the Father12. Ignatius had philosophically described a progression ââ¬Å"from divinity to humanityâ⬠, where Jesus Christ is not considered a separate being but a part of the progression whereby the mind of God had become flesh, and the ââ¬Å"doorway to the Fatherâ⬠13. However, according to Ignatius, the human and divine in Christ does not interfere with the unity of God14. One of the earliest Christian writers, St Irenaeus of Lyons (120 ââ¬â 202 AD), who served at Lyons as a presbyter to Polycarp, wrote his magnum opus ââ¬â Against Heretics ââ¬â at about 180 AD15. In this work, having exposed the errors of Gnosticism, Irenaeus set forth

Lee Valley Segmentation Essay Example for Free
Lee Valley Segmentation Essay Background Lee Valleyââ¬âââ¬âa family-owned business which has been providing customers of woodworking and gardening tools since 1978.Their reputation is based on three principles: 1. Customer satisfaction: Any product may be returned within 3 months and no cost to the customer (for shipments within North America, they will refund your return parcel post costs). 2. Integrity: Product descriptions are matched with the productââ¬âââ¬âeven if the product is roughly made, they will give you accurate descriptions. 3. Treat the customer like a friend. ââ¬Å"About one third of their total sales volume is in products of their own design. The vast majority of these are Veritasà ® brand products made by Veritas Tools Inc., their manufacturing arm. They have a research and development team of 11 people and 130 more in manufacturing. And, to reinforce the part about listening to customers, they have a number of customers earning royalties on products that they manufacture based on designs received from themâ⬠(Lee Valley). Objective Both woodworking and gardening must have a 2.5% increase in total sales in the next fiscal year. To achieve this goal, management has allocated a budget of $500,000ââ¬âexclusive of the cost of printing and mailing the catalogues. This budget is intended to fund the prospecting activities of both product lines. Current Situation Analysis Since Lee Valley launched its e-Commerce site in 2000, internet sales have been an increasing percentage of total sales. When launched, the sitegenerated about 20% of total sales, with phone sales being 70% and sales from mail at 10%.By 2010, Internet sales have reached 70% of total sales, which phone sales at 25% and mail at 5%. [pic]Fig. 1. Percentage of total orders generated by e-commerce from Lee Valley Tools Ltd. [pic] Fig. 2. Percentage of total orders generated by e-commerce from Lee Valley Tools Ltd. According to the pie charts illustrate above, Internet sales have already dominated the total sales of Lee Valley since its e-Commerce site launched in 2000.About 70% of the total customers obtain their products online in 2010 which means that new market segmentation and promotion which focus on online shopping must be generated to accommodate the needs of existing customers as well as new customers. Customer Segmentationââ¬âââ¬âwho the firm will serve Geographic Variables In views of the database surveyed by Euromonitor International in 2012, Home and Garden reveals emerging markets and are growing in popularity, developed countries remain, by far, the highest spenders on gardening products. Higher levels of urbanization and incomes, combined with greater access to a wider range of goods and services in cities, are key factors underpinning demand. -All countries with per household expenditure higher than US$1,000 have more than three quarters of their population. -Economic growth and urbanization are the main forces behind the growth in home and garden in developing countries. Demographic Variables According to the Gardening Market Research, the most popular lawn and garden activities included lawn care (48% of households), growing indoor houseplants (31% of households), flower gardening (30% of households), and landscaping (27% of households). The customer profile indicated from Lee Valley shows that the average gardening buyer characteristics are as follows: -Age: average 47 -Gender: 65% female -Income: average household income $72,017 -Education: 60% have a college education -68% are married -82% are homeowners Psychographic Variables In general, gardening enthusiasts also have their distinguishing lifestyles and personality traits, such as: -Environmental friendly -Family-oriented -Seeking freedom and relaxation -Living a simple and peaceful life -Retired, enjoy DIY and private time -Focus on landscaping Behavioral Variables 1. User status Regular users are those who have their regular schedule for purchase in gardening, most of whom have their own projects. Potential users are people who are intending to access to the market but still with different reasons of hesitation or lacking of stimulation. Ex-users are those who used to purchase gardening tools in the past or 2. Intensity of use In the ââ¬Å"Paretoââ¬â¢s Lawâ⬠, 20% of the customers are heavy users but the remaining 80% are only light users. That indicates companies should emphasis on the most valuable group of customers who are come from the 20%.It dosenââ¬â¢t mean the rest parts are non-essential. Frenquency of order in terms of the climate where the customers live as well as the purpose of purchase. 3. Innovativeness Since 2000, there has been a double-digit growth in the e-commerce sector; statistics have shown that more than 80% of regular online shoppers have used Internet to purchase products or services, while 50% of the online population recorded to have shopped online more than once. According to statistics from Invesp Blog, shoppers by age group is as follows: 18-30 years (54%), 31-44 years (68%), 45-54 years (64%), 55-65 years (68%), 66 years and up (48%). Teens and the young generation find entertainment and social networks online, whereas older generations use the internet as a tool for research, shopping and banking. According to statistics researched in 2009, Generation X (internet users ages 33-44) continues to lead in online shopping. Fully 80% of Generation X internet users buy products online, compared to teenage online users between ages of 18-32, the next runner-up, which constitute 71% of online shopping total. However, there is a decline of internet shopping between the ages 64-72, accounting to 56%, and 47% of online users between the age 73 and older. Global E-commerce sales are growing by more than 19% a year and will be of almost $1.4 trillion by 2015. Lee Valley has a large numbers of customers (70%) ordering online, which illustrates that customers with these certain characteristics are the key part of gardening market. Most people between 35 and 55 years have their own house and garden, 68% of them are married and they are more willing to live a high quality of life with their families. They prefer to online shopping because it is more convenient and can save most of their time as well as money. As far as I am concerned, I suggest Lee Valley to build up collaborative relationships with multinational internet corporations like eBay to extend their market size. At the same time, cut the budget on printing the catalogues and put it to social media so as to attract more new customers. Meanwhile, loyalty program to exiting customers is also indispensable. For instance, gathering different suggestions from loyalty customers and meet their special demands will not only increase the order frequency but also improve the customer satisfaction. An Unforgettable Teaching Experience :: Personal Narrative Essays
It was an extremely sweltering hot afternoon. I started my class with the three kids from a fairly big family. The kitchen was too noisy for me to conduct my class actually but I had adapted to this teaching atmosphere and as usual I started to teach their youngest sister Emily and later his two elder brothers John and Jack in turn. I was quite comfort with her demurely manner. John is a retarded child since he was born. He is still learning the very simple calculation of a year one's child and had difficulty in learning ABC. His brother is even worse off than him. Besides the mathematics that puzzling him forever, he has a very unusual habit that is he would sharpen his pencils up to two dozens before my class ended and he always lost his stationary or belongings after each school's day. He even past motion or urine in front of his classmates. I was once get annoyed when I accidentally stepped on his faeces. I personally considered myself a thoughtful and diligent teacher. I tried my best to open the generation-gap between us. I wish and try to keep on loving them . But today is a very unusual day . I blamed the hot weather that aroused his suspicion and despised his ability in the calculation given to him. He hanged my explanation and continued to ignore my teaching even though I hauled them over the coals. For nearly and hour , no sum nor words were written. Visibly the papers and his mind was blank too. In my mind, I am paid to conduct this class and I have to finish my designated assignments with them to be said as a diligent teacher. Without hesitation, I canned John's brother and he who seemed to be caring of his younger brother Jack started to mutter in a low voice complaining that I shouldn't beat his brother. On hearing his grumble, his mother who has mentally-illness too approached him and started to tease his son saying that he doesn't has the ability to do such an easy sum at the age of 17.

Social Inequalities
To find out as to what extent social class not only shapes attitudes, values and beliefs, but also has a significant impact on life chances, I will begin by defining social stratification, social class and life chances. Sociological theories will also be used to help understand society. Education and employment impact on society will also be discussed using journal articles obtained as a guide. To understand social stratification, it is important to make a distinction between social inequality, which refers to the existence of socially created inequalities whereas social stratification is a particular form of inequality. It refers to the presence of distinct social groups which are ranked one above the other in terms of factors such as prestige and wealth. Using the functionalist theory, we can understand stratification better as this theory views society as a system that is set of interconnected parts which together form a whole. Talcott Parsons (1902- 79). Davis and moore (1945), claimed that all societies have some form of social stratification. George Peter Murdock (1949) maintained that the family exists in every known human society. All these people seem to suggest that individual families and social stratification meet needs that are common to all societies. I agree with the functionalism theory as it is small groups such as families that make up society as a whole. Each family trying to survive and do better than others in the process bettering the society. For a society to survive, functional prerequisites of society are required as Marion J. Levy (1952) argued that a society would cease to exist if its members were absorbed into another society or involved in a war of all against all. Marion J. Levy ââ¬â¢ s argument can be challenged. With the shortage of housing, families getting absorbed into another society would be replaced by families searching for accommodation. On the other hand, ethnomethodologists follow Alfred Schutz (1932) in believing there is no real social order as other sociological perspectives assume. Social life appears orderly to members of society only because members actively engage in making scence of social life. According to Zimmerman and Wieder (1971), society go about the task of seeing, describing and explaining order in the world in which they live. Social class ââ¬â Savage et al. described social class as social collectivises rooted in particular types of exploitative relationships. These collectivises are groups of people who share levels of income, lifestyles, cultures and political orientations. An example of this could be a group of footballers, would share the same level of income, with similar lifestyles will act or be seen or perceived differently to golf players who are equally rich but may have a different lifestyle to footballers. This can be linked to Marxist theory. Karl Marx (1818- 83) regarded people as both the producers and the products of society. People are regarded as producers as they make society and themselves by their own actions. People are regarded as products of society in that they are shaped by the social relationships and systems of thought they create. To support Karl Marx ââ¬â¢ s comment on people being a product of society, a real life example could be given where a student joins university for the first time. University can be regarded as a society with different individuals, all trying to achieve the same thing. It is up to the new student to choose the group he joins and this will affect the student ââ¬â¢ s life at university if in a bad group or good group thereby making the student a product of that society. Life chances- Gerth and mills, (1954) stated that a person ââ¬â¢ s position in a stratification system may have important effects on many areas of life. It may enhance or reduce life chances that is their chances of obtaining those things that are desirable and avoiding those things defined as undesirable in their society. (Max Weber). To help determine whether in fact social class not only shapes attitudes, values and beliefs, it is important to categorize social class. Social class refers to the persistent social inequalities. Two distinct types of social inequality have been identified by researchers working with two different sociological theories. One theory is derived from the work of Karl Marx the other from the writings by Max Weber, which are somewhat critical of Marx ââ¬â¢ s work. Marxian approach suggests that social class was defined by ownership of the means of production bourgeoisie who exploit the workers who do not own the means of production (proletariat). Source: the Canadian encyclopedia. Marxian approach can be challenged as it does not refer to occupation or levels of income. Marxian approach regarded everyone that did not own land as proletariat. This would mean that senior managerial administrative and manual working class would be regarded as being in the same class (proletetariat). There is a vast difference between the income and benefits of senior managers compared to manual workers therefore it wouldn ââ¬â¢ t be right to put the two in the same class. Ethnic and gender factors are mportant in differentiating people and in relating them to the general division of labour and inequalities of opportunity and conditions which are associated with it. Another way of categorizing class is by referring to upper class, consisting of property owners (bourgeoisie), middle class consisting of senior managers, middle managers and supervisory and service worker class and finally the working class or lower class consisting of manual work ers. A variety of studies have shown that non-manual workers enjoy advantages over manual workers in terms of their life chances. The office for national statistics (ONS), has compiled a range of statistical evidence on inequalities between classes in England and Wales. (Focus on social inequalities 2004). In 2002, 77% of year 11 children with parents in higher professional occupations obtained five or more GCSE ââ¬â¢ S at grade C or above, compared to 32% of those with parents in routine occupations. In my opinion, the above statistics suggest that parents can also act as role models to their children. An example is that if a parent is CEO of an organization, he/she will encourage their children to do well at school and reach the same level or above the parent position. Just for being CEO, this parent has set a target level for his/her children which is quit hard to archive but with the parent ââ¬â¢ s income, the child can go to private school and increase life chances. On the other hand, it would be hard for a parent in manual labour to encourage their child to reach CEO position. This child may see this as an impossible task and will settle for the same factory job or aspire to be the factory supervior. This child ââ¬â¢ s parent income could not be enough to better life chance. Social class does really shape attitudes, values and beliefs and this can be supported by the common American saying ââ¬Å" The American dream â⬠. The American dream can be explained as a belief and the freedom that allows all citizens and residents to achieve their life chances in the USA. Today, in America it generally refers to the idea that one ââ¬â¢ s prosperity depends upon one ââ¬â¢ s own abilities and hard work. ( wikipedia encyclopedia). This is a message passed on to all people in America but in my opinion, people from the lower class are likely to believe in the American dream as some form of comfort or assurance that things could get better in future. The journal article below is by Andrew Billen. The Times. London uk. Aug 20, 2007. Pg 19(Full article can be found on Appendix 1) Page 2 In last night ââ¬â¢ s season opener, the fascistically titled the will to win[Robert Winston] fretted at age 7 their fates may already be sealed. Certainly, by the programme ââ¬â¢ s end it looked if the Jesuits knew what they were talking about. As little William sprinted ahead of the pack to the finishing line of his private school ââ¬â¢ s egg and spoon race, his ambitious mother was convinced he was already the person he would become. ââ¬Å" I ââ¬â¢ m definitely going to win, â⬠he had confidently predicted half an hour earlier. ââ¬Å" And I ââ¬â¢ m going to come second, â⬠chipped in his friend, the sort of friend William would need. Down at the other end of Britain, where life chances are more ragged, was [James], whose ambition in life had hardened up: he wanted to be a robber. His answer to a dumbed-down IQ test question, ââ¬Å" what do you do if you find a wallet on the floor? â⬠was ââ¬Å" take it home â⬠. Despite this, James ââ¬â¢ s IQ was found to be just a touch below average. If only he had been clever enough to choose different parents. His father had scampered when he was an infant, leaving his mother Carol, struggling. This article points out that a child born in an upper class family will have better life chances as they will be able to attend very good schools or private schools thereby bettering their chances of succeeding. Page 2 Aspects of life such as income play an important part in achieving life chances as pointed out by the article below taken from Allister Heath. Sunday Business London (UK) Jun 26. 2005 pg 1. The writer noted that the UK is plagued with low social mobility; and that this is partly due to the strong and increasing relationship between family income and educational attainment. The proportion of children from the poorest fifth of families born during the early 1980s obtaining a degree has increased from 6% to 9%, while the graduation rate for the richest fifth has risen from 20% to 47%. Full article can be found on Appendix 2) Social class still exists at present as most of what we do on a daily basis is determined by how we perceive or wish to perceive ourselves. Eg, the cars we choose to buy, friends we choose etc. Jonathan Moore, UK BBC Publication, 18/12/2007 I fully agree that social class does in fact have a significant impact on life chances. The functionalist theory did des cribe society as a system that is set of interconnected parts which together form a whole. This brings out the fact that society is divided into different classes and that inequalities do exist. William, in the journal article was positive he would win because of his up brining from his parents not to accept second best. His parents, through their jobs have set a target for William which will affect his life chances. Essay About Experience That Is Most Dear to Me
Experience That Is Most Dear to Me About 15 years ago, when I was going to the second grade, there was a day which influenced my future greatly. Of course, at that moment I didnââ¬â¢t realize it, but it was so strong that I remember that feeling I experienced that day up till now and I am sure that I will never forget it. On that day my grandmother invited her friend to us to drink some coffee. She came with her daughter who was a couple of years elder than me. After some conversations, which I donââ¬â¢t remember now, there was that moment. Mary, the daughter of my grannyââ¬â¢s friend, found my English textbook and started reading some exercises from it. So far, I didnââ¬â¢t hear the English language much, as our teacher was often ill and my parents spoke only Spanish. Moreover, I didnââ¬â¢t like my English classes and this language seemed too boring for me to learn. Nevertheless, all of a sudden, it changed when Mary started to read. I was so impressed with the beauty of the language that I held my breath just not to interrupt this magical reading process. I looked at her with my big eyes and didnââ¬â¢t move. I just wanted her to continue on and on. That was the moment when I decided to learn this language and read as great as Mary did. From then on I remember that I read that textbook every day and I completed all the assignments by myself in about half a year ââ¬â and that being only 7 years old! I am still fascinated by my insistence. A lot happened since that time, but even now, 15 years later, that feeling of fascination didnââ¬â¢t ever leave me. Now I know the language very well, but still always try to reveal something interesting and previously unknown for me. And what is even more exciting ââ¬â I always succeed in it. I will never forget that day and that feeling and I am sure that this memory will always keep me concentrated and will urge me to develop and evolve every day of my life.

Bram Stoker s Dracul Victorian Men And Women - 1455 Words
Katherine Fulmer ENGL 3023 Dr. Lawrence 1 December 2015 Bram Stokerââ¬â¢s Dracula: Victorian Men and Women 1. Introduction Bram Stokerââ¬â¢s world famous novel Dracula, blurs the lines between Victorian ideal gender roles by using strong central female characters, such as, the three vampire sisters, Lucy and Mina, to express a powerful female sexuality challenging the Victorian notion of what makes a woman. The Victorian society placed women in a bubble of sexual purity and fragileness, making men the central heroes and the ideal representation of sexuality in most Victorian text. For example, another great Gothic Victorian novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson points out male heroism and creates a world void of female nuisances. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic example of female suppression within Victorian literature. There are almost no female characters in The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the few that are presented throughout the storyââ¬â¢s narrative are damsels in distress that need a man to save and protect them. Further proving the need for masculinity within the Victorian society. A woman was thought to need a man. In the Victorian era there existed an intolerance towards women and sexuality. The common attitude was that women were essentially sexless, as if their sex drive differed from males. Women were thought to only have desire to satisfy man s needs and take care of family. Essay on APUSH DBQ- Hoover vs. Roosevelt - 774 Words
DBQ #3 President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the thirty-second president of the United States, was a central figure for the United States in the 20th Century. While leading his country out of The Great Depression, he also led the nation through World War II. Herbert Hoover, the thirty-first President, led the country during the Great Depression and his policies enforced at that time eventually led to his downfall because of their inability to end the downward economic spiral. Both of these Presidents greatly contributed to the nation by using different policies and tactics that classified them as either liberal or conservative. Although there are some exceptions because of the acts passed by Hoover, the characterizations of President D.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦As a humanitarian, he gave much of his money to charity, encouraging the same from other Americans. One of his exceptions of being strictly conservative was in his public works programs. These programs were made to improve governmen t properties, the most famous being the Hoover Dam. Although he showed a bit of a liberal side by improving government and participating in government programs, he still displayed many more conservative features than liberal. While President Hoover favored less government action in the fight against the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt was the complete opposite. After defeating Hoover in the 1932 presidential election, Roosevelt coined the phrase ââ¬Å"Happy Days Are Here Againâ⬠because he planned on bettering the economy through experimentation with various new programs, or the New Deal programs (Doc H). These programs that originated during the Hundred Days possessed three main focuses: relief, recovery, and reform. These government-involving programs proved that Roosevelt was more on the side of liberals than conservatives. Roosevelt also created National Works Administration, creating labor laws that recognized unions and set up Social Security which conservatives opposed. Also in the Glass-Steagall Banking Reform Act, which limited commercial bank securities activities and affiliations between commercial banks and securities firms, Roosevelt

A Royal Commission Be Held Into The Australian Banking System
Question: Should A Royal Commission Be Held Into The Australian Banking System. Answer: Introduction The main research topic with regards to this research paper is should a royal commission be held into the australian banking system? In addition to this, this research paper would focus on a number of issues that faced by the Australian banks in the current time. Along with this, this research study would provide a clear overview of the Australian Banking system. On the other hand, this study would also address a wide range of behavioral issues in the front of Australian Banks. At the same time, the positive and negative arguments in the context of Royal Commission would be made in order to attain the aims of the study. Finally, the suggestions/recommendations would be proposed to the government in order to use Royal Commission in the Australian Banking system. Behavioral Issues Faced By the Banks The banking system of the Australia is more competitive, liquid and competitive as compare to the others nation banking systems. Moreover, it is also found that, the banking systems of the country is consists with the various banks including corporate banks, retail banks, agricultural banks, co-operative banks etc. It means the banking industry of the nation is characterized with a number of small and large banks under the banking act 1959. In addition to this, it is analyzed that, the banking system of Australia is more effective, dynamic and innovative in term of product range and services. This banking system is helping the nation in attaining economic goals and objectives effectively. In the same way, it can be said that, the banks are playing a lot of fundamental and significant role in the financial system of Australia. Hence, this banking system is characterized with the several functionalities and features that make it more innovative and dynamic (McAllister, Dowrick, and Has san, 2003). But, in the current time, a series of complicated and serous issues are faced by the Australian bank in the banking sector of the nation. For example, from the last two to three years, an unexpected amount of challenges/issues with regards to behavior are encountered that negatively affected the growth, success, marketability, reputation, and functioning of the banks in the market. All these also issues also affected the image of banking system of the country negatively in the eyes of public (Bernanke, 2011). For example, many customers of banks had claimed that they are not treated by the banks fairly, friendly and effectively in relation to the different matters. For example, the banks of the nations are taking unnecessary fees for the various banking services. Most of banks are charging very higher for the credit or debit card services. In the same way, a number of charges such as: hidden costs are claimed by the banks from the customers. On the other hand, the most of the banks d oes not have proper financial management systems to conduct the transactions (Arnold, 2008). Moreover, the inappropriate planning of the bank can also be seen in any banks. For example, the employees or representative does not have sufficient knowledge and information about the financial planning that negatively increasing the costs for the customers and results in financial losses to individual customers. Apart from this, it is also claimed by most of banks customers that their banks are not making payment of life insurance claims on the time. They are creating the issues in the front of the banks customer by rejecting the life insurance claims. At the same time, it is also analyzed that, banks are trying to manipulate the customers by minimizing the interest rates on the bank loans. In the same way, various types of hidden costs are charged by the banks to the customer that negatively affecting the financial position of an individual customer of the bank. Such types of issues are faced by the banks customers that negatively affecting the customers (Millmow, 2010). All these banking issues are addressed by the clients, customers, media and political party. Moreover, it is proposed and suggested that, there should be a Royal Commission into banks so that overall issues faced by the customers can be control and handle in an effective and proper manner. Some people are against the use of Royal commission into the banking sector of the nation. It is argued by them that, there is no need of Royal commission into the banking system because of the availability of existing regulatory processes and standards. They also said that, the regularity process and standards would be sufficient to handle such types of issues (Coleman, Cornish, and Drake, 2007). Royal Commission In this section of the research paper, the arguments for and against the Royal commission would be made in order to reach valid outcomes. Arguments for the Royal Commission into Banks: There are various arguments in the favor of Royal commission that indicates that, the Royal Commission should be held within the Australian banking system. For example, the Royal Commission within the banking systems of the nation can help in creating more accountability and flexibility. For example, Royal Commission would allow the government as well as Reserve bank of Australia to investigate and address the fraud, forgery and allegation with the banking systems and take appropriate actions against the banks for the misconduct and miss presentation. On the other hand, it is also important to know that, by using and implementing a Royal Commission would help the financial sector and banking industry in clean up various serious issues within the internal culture (Abbas, Bouhga-Hagbe, Fats, Mauro, and Velloso, 2011). In the same way, the banks would be able to re establish and buttress the confidence of customers or communities. For example, according to the Royal Commission, the bank s would have to focus on overcoming the challenges and issues of their customer this would motivate, encourage the customers. At the same time, it is argued that, Royal Commission would also bring innovation within the banking sector by solving the issues of their client (Bolton, 2013). They would also be able to generate more profit and revenue by developing strong confidence among the customers. Overall, the Royal Commission would be more valuable, significant and important not only for the banks but also government. It is because it would increase the financial and economic position of the nation. Moreover, issues related to misconduct, ethical, mispresentation, and misappropriate related issues could also be handled and controlled by the Royal Commission. The banking organizations could not be able to mismanage, and misappropriate customers fund (Cherunilam, 2008). Hence, it is argued for the Royal Commission it should be held within the banking sector of the nation to make the system more transparent and easier. At the same time, it is argued in the favor that a Royal Commission would also address and examine a wide range of banking issues and challenges. For example, Royal Commission would allow to access and prevents illegal and unethical behavior. Moreover, it would be easier to access and analyze that how the banking institutions of the Australia are performing their duties of care to their customers (Jones, 2012). Arguments against the Royal Commission into Banks: There are a wide range of arguments are made against the Royal commission into the banking system of Australia. For example, it is argued that, the Royal commission would pose a wide range of new risks in the banking sector that would negatively affect the success, productivity, organizational image and growth of the banking sector of the nation. For example, if Royal commission would be implemented into the banking sector of the Australia, it would give signal to the lenders of the banks that their banks are not stable and flexible. It would also have negative impact on the accountability and creditability of the nations banking system. It would also create negative image of the countrys banking system in the global market. On the other hand, some people argued that, Royal commission would also increase the price of money and the funds would be slower (Coleman, Cornish, and Hagger, 2006). At the same time, it is also argued and analyzed that Royal commission is more costly and would take longer time in the implementation within the banking system of the country. For case, it may create unexpected cost not only for a banking firm but also government. This would adversely affect the economic and financial situation of the Australia. It is also suggested that, existing regulations of the banking sectors should be modified to deal with the issues. Along with this, Royal commission could also negatively affect the financial advisors because they dont have adequate and accurate understanding of banking products and services. Moreover, if Royal commission would be executed within the banking sector of the country, the banks would have to train their employees by investing huge amount. It would directly reduce the profits and revenue level of the banks. Hence, all these are the major arguments against the execution of Royal commission into the banking systems of the nation (M agarey, and Round, 2007). Recommendations for the Government of Australia On the basis of above discussion, analysis, it is recommended that, the government of the Australia should take appropriate actions by considering the social policy initiatives with a big public impact. In addition to this, the government should also play a lot of significant functions and role in the context of Royal Commission. For case, it is more essential and important for the government to sets the scopes of inquiry in an effective and proper manner. Along with this, it is also suggested that, the government of the country should also determine and examine the specific scope and importance of the Royal Commission by deciding on its terms of reference. Apart from this, it is also important for the government to publish a summary of the cost of the Royal commission. In addition to this, the government should publish official inquiry within a reasonable time period (Carroll, 2004). At the same time, the government should also focus on publishing the updates on the execution of suggestions of an inquiry. In addition to this, it should also be noted down that, the government of the nation must effectively and properly examine the advantages and disadvantages of using royal commission within the banking sectors. Moreover, the government should also analyze the long and short term positive and negative impact on the banking system of Royal commission (Carbaugh, 2008). Each and every fact such as suggestions should be considered by the government in order to take most appropriate and specific decision regarding the royal commission (Muhleman, 2008). The government must also ensure that institutional knowledge and information have established, conducted and administered by publishing and developing inquires handbook. Moreover, the government should also have arrange and conduct the meeting with the experts to take specific advice on the Royal Commission. So, the government should have proper and sufficient knowledge on the Royal Commission. For example, the government should be consult with the individual, organizations and Indigenous groups because they would have greater impact. Along with this, it can also be suggested to the government that, they must focus on adopting innovative, dynamic and specific techniques and approaches in order to get desired results (Butlin, 2002). On the other hand, the government should also create and develop specific framework to understand royal commission in an effective and more specific manner. In addition to this, the government should take actions as soon as possible on the Royal Commission . Moreover, it can also be said that, the government is the biggest body in the nation that must consider all the aspects of the royal commission (Sexton, 2010). Finally, it can also be suggested that, the government should also consider and analyze the positive and negative arguments made by the people about the Royal commission. Hence, all these are the major suggestions and recommendation to the government of Australia that should be considered before taking any actions whatever the Royal Commission should be used or not in the banking sector of the nation (Macintyre, 2015). Conclusion Based on the given analysis, it can be concluded that, the Australian banking industry is one of the fast growing, biggest, flexible, and liquid that helping the nation in attaining economic and financial objectives in an effective and proper manner. On the other hand, it is also concluded that, in the current time of globalization and competition, there are serious of behavioral banking issues and challenges encountered by the banks in the Australia that adversely affected the growth, success, performance, productivity and marketability. Moreover, it can also be concluded that, these issues are also affecting the customers directly or indirectly. It means unethical treatment; illegal practices, mis-presentation, misconduct, etc are the major issues that are faced by the customers of the banks in the Australia. These issues are also affected the reputation and image of the banking sector negatively in the eyes of the public. At the same time, it is also found that, with the use and i mplementation of a Royal Commission, various issues could be handled and controlled. So, several positive and negative arguments are made in the context of Royal Commission into the banking system of the Australia. Finally, it is suggested to the government of the nation to take appropriate and effective actions with regards to the use of Royal Commission within the banking sector of the country. Strategies to Foster Innovation and Entrepreneurship MyAssignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about the Strategies to Foster Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Answer: Introduction: This essay looks into Shop Eight, a caf located in Regent Street at Christchurch in New Zealand. The Caf was established in 2013 by Liz Phelan who had studied in Melbourne and started the caf without taking a bank loan for financing(Berry, 2013). The caf is set up in an area that is prone to earthquakes. The earthquake experienced in Christchurch fur ears ago left most of the city centre destroyed by Shop Eight miraculously survived (Jacobs, 2014; Beckett, 2015). The caf offers food and wine and takes into consideration the setting of the shop and the food and wine offered to the customers. It is also evident that the furniture and the much they do from the few resources at their disposal is commendable, taking into consideration similar cafes that pose threats to the caf. The owner is Elizabeth Phelan who partners with Chef Alex Davies since the beginning of operations. Shop Eight is cafeteria that integrates with a wine bar properly set at the cafeteria to show a difference between the bar area and the rest of the caf while still maintaining the caf atmosphere not to confuse it with a bar. Bloomreach, Infinite Analytics, and Mona are among the most successful ecommerce business which owe a great deal of their success to the specific focus on posting relevant content online and putting the customer first in the delivery of their products and services. That comes in addition to their interactions(Zeus, 2017). The stakeholders of the caf include the customers, Lizs mother-the one that loaned her the money for the start-up, Rekindle recycled timber providers in exchange for a platform to showcase their products and the two partners-Liz and Alex. Rekindle is close a partner as it is located upstairs above the caf and takes up half of the burden of paying the rent of the [premises. The caf employs few staff, never more than ten, and works towards the minimization of consists to allow for saving for future investments. It does not operate on loans as Liz turned down the suggestion to take a loan for the start-up and preferred to pool resources from her savings, family, and friends(Berry, 2013). The team of two makes use of the local products whereas growing some of their food which shows their effort to maximize the use of the resources at their disposal. As a caf owned by a team of two, the success is commendable and can only be linked to the passion of the owners/ managers. The managers have a vision of the creation of a caf that provides for the needs of the local and international customer that visits the hotel with the hope of satisfaction, enjoyment, and a warm ambience. According to a customer review, although they do not let it affect the services and quality of the food and wine served, Liz and Alex seem like a tired team sustained mostly by their passion for the business(Fraser, 2014). The customers visit the caf with the purpose of experiencing the feel of a warm environment accompanied by good food and wine for enjoyment and satisfaction. The owners (Liz and Alex) hold the purpose of expanding to the point of competing with the large cafes in the town and the rest of New Zealand through providing unique dishes, keeping the customers interested by changing menus, and giving the customers a variety of options within their tastes. The vision also includes the accessibility of the food and wine at all times and at any place by the use of different platforms of conducting business. The vision is also flexible since Liz initially opened the caf with the intention of making it a coffee shop that offers high quality coffee with custom sandwiches to match(Fraser, 2014). Analysis of the Business Environment An analysis of the business environment is done using the SWOT analysis that looks into the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities of the business and the existing and potential threats that can hinder the vision of the business. Shop eight has various strengths as seen on pages with customer reviews and even through observation. A review by Beckett (2015) describes the menu as very creative whereas Fraser (2014) calls the menu and food variety amazing with direct recommendations to the chef. One of the strengths is the effort to encompass class into the small and simple caf. It has the strength of having survived the quake which offered the inhabitants of Christchurch an option of a food outlet after most were destroyed in the quake, and the fame of survival. As the one that started the business, Liz has the advantage of a background in hospitality and international experience from her studying in Melbourne(Berry, 2013). In addition to that, the nature of her restaurant favours the market because of the popularity of dining out among the New Zealanders and the preference of taking their food alongside wine during all meals(New Zealand History, 2016). There is also the strength of an amazing chef as during her visit to Christchurch, Ruth, a renowned food critic commented on the wonderful food saying that the chef had a bright future ahead of him. The design is also commendable because of the amazing fit of the recycled furniture and the combination of different designs to bring out the best of the interiors(Beckett, 2015). Having declined the advice to take a bank loan and having taken one from her mother instead, the caf has the advantage of the problem of bad debts and sanctions from lenders. Their situation gives them the freedom to expand without worry because the loan is one whose terms can be negotiated and the most important and pressing investments made for the overall good of the caf. The caf has a weakness in that it is located in an earthquake prone geographical position which puts it at the risk of demolition during an earthquake. Although Shop Eight survived the previous earthquake experienced five years ago, there is no guarantee of survival in case of another. The caf is also short-staffed, something caused by the small size of the caf in part and the point in growth at which it is in terms of fame, popularity, and revenue. The position of the caf brings on the other weakness which is the slow growth of Christchurch. That makes it difficult to attract that many investors and customers into the town. The last earthquake that destroyed the entire city centre brings in the fear of the occurrence of another makes investors shy away from investing in the area, thus, reducing the human traffic and inhabitants in the area. Customers are an important part of the business because they are the ones responsible for directly bringing revenue into the business. With the current shift towards online shopping, Shop Eight has the opportunity to take over the online platform to conduct business. The lack of numerous immediate competitors gives the business a chance to expand at its own pace. New Zealand also has a considerable Asian population which gives the cafe the opportunity to diversify the cultural background of their cuisine to include various countries and continents for a more diverse customer base. According to research, New Zealanders have the culture of dining out and the consumption of wine alongside their meals (Jacobs, 2014). Taking the popularity of dining out among the New Zealanders and their appreciation for good wine, the expansion of the caf and the inclusion of high-end and affordable items on their menu is a win for them and a win for their customers. One of the main threats of businesses in Christchurch and its inhabitants is the possibility of the occurrence of an earthquake and the resultant loss of property and businesses. The survival of Shop Eight during the last earthquake was a once in a lifetime case of luck that cannot be guaranteed in the future. The other threats include the possibility of closing down as a result of losses coming from the loss of customers to competition, and the increased cost of running the caf. The dependence on Rekindles for the sharing of costs is also a risk that is a potential threat in the case of the need to close down or move by Rekindled. Shop Eight would strain in the payment of its rent as a result and have to look for other financial source options. Others include new entrants into the market, preference of substitute fast foods over fine dining, and the expansion of already existing hotels and their adoption of new technologies before Shop Eight. The two most suitable strategic options required to trigger innovation and entrepreneurship at Shop Eight include: The adoption of the newest technologies such as the use of the online platform for sales and marketing purposes. The continual improvement of the knowledge and skills of the stakeholders to incapacitate them with the power to create more from whet they learn. How adapting new technologies and continuous improvement of the knowledge of my stakeholders are in alignment with the business: The vision of the business is to provide exceptional service and food to the customers and ensure that Shop Eight caters for the needs of the local and international customer that visit the hotel with the hope of satisfaction, enjoyment, and a warm ambience. The business is on a mission to become renowned and if possible open up to franchises in Christchurch and even other parts of New Zealand. The adaptation of the most recent technologies involves the use of the most recent sales and marketing strategies such as ecommerce and a greater online presence(Carpio Lange, 2015). Such technological advancement is in line with the vision and mission of the business because they are among the most popular platforms for advertising, sales, and purchases, especially among the millennials who make up a majority of the population in the world. Continuous improvement requires innovative ideas to ensure the caf stands out above the rest of the competition. Innovation and entrepreneurial characteristics seek to advance the ability of the caf to satisfy the needs of the customer for the increase of the revenue of such a caf. As a result, it continuous improvement through additional education and the opportunity of the chef to engage in other cooking activities (such as cook-offs with other chefs) outside the caf for instance, increase their experience, insight, and knowledge base for the increase of the variety of food provided by Shop Eight. The same is enhanced by the enablement of the Chef (taking the chef as an example among the stakeholders) through the adoption of the moset recent technology and the application of the knowledge to the daily activities of running the caf. Requirements of the Stakeholders The stakeholders vary but all seek for the improvement of the operations of the caf, the increase in revenue, and the expansion of the business. Other requirements include smooth operations in the caf to enhance the customer experience and reduce fatigue. According to Teneva (2017), food is among the top ranked items that are trending in ecommerce in terms of popularity and profitability. It also has the element of competition since many people are turning towards ecommerce(Puri, 2015). The owners, Liz and Alex, also have the need to clear their loan and operate on the profits that they earn. Innovation and entrepreneurship shall be enhanced by the availability of the necessary technology for improvement. Such includes the availability of the latest operating equipment, the adoption of online sales and sharing of activities done in the caf online. When added with increased knowledge on a regular staff, the people working at the caf shall be in a better position to satisfy the unique needs of other stakeholders by the use of innovative ideas. That satisfies their requirements to be professionals, accessible, and competitive in the market amidst the competition. How the adoption of the newest technologies and continuous improvement of the knowledge of the stakeholders shall promote innovation to meet the needs of the customers and meet the needs of the customers and the stakeholders Innovation, as mentioned, shall involve the use of new technologies to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship and continuous improvement among the stakeholders. That is because the stakeholders shall have what they need to grow at their disposal. Continuous improvement of the stakeholders involves the increase of their skills, knowledge, and awareness through training programs and sharing relevant information. Such training should come hand in hand with the recommendation to put it into use for the advancement of the careers of the employees and other stakeholders and the inclusion of external stakeholdres. That is because the current trend in the food industry is the shift to ecommerce(Carpio Lange, 2015). As for the customers, the availability of the most recent and popular technologies shall enhance the links between the caf, its products, its suppliers, and the customers(Collins, Cobanglu, Bilgihan, 2013). The platforms adapted for sales and marketing and the technologies shall also be used to educate the customers and potential customers who visit such online platforms through blogs and sharing recipes. The availability of such information banks attracts diverse customers and other people that bump into them with their agendas such as research and studies. The recipes, however, must be shared sparingly to avoid losing their uniqueness that makes hop Eight stand out. Taking USS statistics into consideration, although majority of the population was using computers and the interned in 2013, only 14% of food vendors conducted business online. That is contrary to the fact that those that conducted online business got 50% of their total value from ecommerce(Trends in ecommerce for the food marketing system). The successful implementation of advanced technology in conducting business includes the involvement of other stakeholders such as the suppliers of the agricultural products for the formation of a smooth continuous loop of online transactions. Innovation is made possible by the addition of creativity in the options offered online, the combination of customer recommendations from their online reviews in relation to the recipes and informative posts, and the experiences of the customers with the food offered at Shop Eight. Risks and uncertainty associated with options for customers and stakeholders Assurance to the customers can be made through the provision of actual testimonials of the successful deliveries and the provision of favourable return policies and compensation strategies. The modes of payment are another source of uncertainty among the customers and other stakeholders that should be ensured by the adoption of upgraded safety precautions for online transactions. There additional e-business security systems that must be considered when conducting online business. It is essential for your online business to adapt encryption technologies and security certifications for safe use and convincing the clients about the safety of the use of such websites. In case of security breaches and the leak of confidential customer information, the ethical thing to do is inform the customers about the breach and the progress in the response made by the company in relation to the same. It is also essential to provide declarations and clauses that detach you from severe legal sanctions in case of accidental security confidence breaches. The adoption of new technologies must come along with training on how to run them so that there is only occasional need to hire external contractors in cases of major maintenance. The caf is still new and runs on limited resources. However, since the addition of the additional financial, human, and material resources is inevitable, the business must be willing to invest in such advancement for the sake of the encouragement of innovation and entrepreneurship. Such resources include those invested in training in the use of various online platforms and software such as the use of Sage, Hub spot, Xero, and Tidy works for the management of the online business(Reed, 2015). The management also requires upgraded software such as Bamboo HR that make HR management easier and efficient (Getapp). The existing stakeholders should find ways to multitask and handle some of the new technologies such as online transactions in addition to their usual tasks because organizational change involves the te mporary addition of the work load of the employees for the integration of the change into the regular operations of the business (Walsh, 2016). Other important systems are the point of sale systems (Cashier and point of service terminals that) such as Ezee Burrp, TapHunter, and BIM POS that help with guest service, operation revenues. They help in the elimination of arithmetic errors, an increase in the average guest checking, a reduction in credit card expenses and labour costs, and more efficient reactions to trends (Collins, Cobanglu, Bilgihan, 2013; Capterra, 2017). Barriers to the implementation of the options in terms of their requirements to their customers The barriers that may exist are the lack of knowledge to run the technologically advanced technologies are such as the online software for running the business and the interaction criteria with the rest of the world (including the customers) on the website and social media. The other barrier is the lack of technology adapted to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship resulting in the stagnation of the business in its current position. The two strategic options are connected and interdependent where none can stand on its own without the other. That way the needs of the customers can be met efficiently be people who know what they are doing in their new innovations and the application of the new resources at their disposal to interact with the customers. As a result, the needs of the customers are met efficiently and the innovative ideas spread among the customers(Duff and Phelps, 2016). The success of the business depends on its adaptation to customer preferences which have an inclination towards healthier diets in 2017(Maras, 2015). Such barriers come as a result of the lack of enough knowledge to handle the clients and their inquiries, and the use of unfriendly interaction software that discourages use among some clients (Carpio Lange, 2015). The intention is to attract customers from all walks of life which involve the consideration of the approach of the innovations set into motion by the business. In addition to that, there is the possibility of the barrier where the other stakeholders are not willing to upgrade and be at per with the technological advancement adopted by the business. It is most efficient where the stakeholders including the suppliers are willing to get onto the same platform as the business. In cases where they do not, the business is forced to integrate the new and the old ways of doing things. However, the innovativeness fostered by the training and the availability of resources to explore is enough to ensure that such instances are not barriers to the operations of the business. Example of a plan incorporating the changes/improvements required for the business in various areas such as: Taking technology as the first option, there is a plan of the incorporation of the changes in terms of technology using the option of the availability of the necessary equipment and technologies. The plan is to adopt the most recent relevant software in the management of the business, the marketing strategies, and the personal advancement of the staff. Innovation must come in the methods applied in the attraction of the customers such as diversification into other niche products that are popular in the food industry ecommerce. The products that are most popular in ecommerce in the food industry include health drinks, detox tea, nacha, and nootropics(Teneva, 2017). The other are the control and monitoring processes, a factor that is intertwined with technological advancement. The monitoring and control processes are enhanced through technological advancement and through the adaptation of the related relevant software. It ensures better risk management while still maintaining the normal running of the business. Risk management is done through special monitoring programs and the impartation of the relevant skills among the employees through training, practice, and coaching. The same applies for the systems and processes where the use of hub spot, sage, xero, and others like tidy works and bamboo HR are instrumental in the enhancement of the systems and processes (Sales Marketing, 2016; Reed, 2015). The others are the systems and processes that require different software, skills, and coordination systems for efficiency. There are different operational differences that depend on the size and type of business and the skills of the employees. There is the other option of continuous employee development through training and educative programs for other stakeholders that best enhances innovation and entrepreneurship among the stakeholders. It is done training, practice, and coaching. As mentioned earlier, the education of the masses is possible using the online platforms that represent the business. According to Hardy (2014) control and monitoring process is enhanced using the adaptation new and more efficient software about which the staff must be trained for actual operations in the current digital evolution. The dissemination of the educative information must be included in the consent certificates to be signed by customers before transactions and the educative articles published in the newsletters. It is common for businesses to engage in unethical and culturally inappropriate behaviours in their quest for advancement and the reduction of expenses in the process. It is for that reason that the business must incorporate the rules-ethical aspects- to be followed prior to the implementation of the changes. It also helps to consult with the relevant parties to avoid getting into trouble and working all ways-including illegal ways- to get out of such trouble. Such specialists include lawyers, data protection specialists for the encryption of the information input by the business and the customers online, and that put by the business. Professional aspects required for the successful shift of the organizational culture include discretion and the maintenance of the confidentiality of the customers. It is also essential to consider that the customer is always right as a professional attitude for the consideration of the needs of the customers above all else. With the advancement in regard for health and healthy practices, the maintenance of Corporate Social Responsibility and the publication of the activities in which the business engages to ensure corporate social responsibility in its innovations is essential for its success and survival(Heneghan, 2016). The social aspects cover the inter-personal relationships and individual conduct in the work environment as a social environment. It relates to friendships, relationships, among other affiliations. In general, the organizational change should incorporate multiculturalism through the employment of diverse staff and the inclusion of activities that encourage partnerships between them to foster the culture in the business. The values of the business must be clearly laid out to include the values, attitudes, and beliefs that should run the employees within the company. Care must be taken so as not to compromise work for such relations. The same goes for cultural aspects and their regard. They include the values shared among the employees, their attitudes, and standards. Multiculturalism is inevitable in the globalized environment and the co-existence of people from different cultural background in various areas (Milkman, 2016). Conclusion The adoption of new methods of operation and the change in the organizational function and culture is a major shift that requires effort in relation to the financial, material, and human resource input. Commitment to the course and the willingness to incur extra expenses in the process is inevitable where the changes involve the incorporation of new programs and technology. It is essential to ensure that the staff and other stakeholders keep up with the pace which should be accompanied with options in ase of the laxity of othere stakeholders in the adoption of the new technologies to avoid inconveniences in the transition process.
